Happy New Year!– My Foodie New Year’s Resolutions and a Champagne Cocktail

December 31st, 2009 · 14 Comments · Autumn, Beverages, Entertaining, Holiday, Non Recipe

Well, 2009 has been a banner year over here at Savour Fare (erm, it has been the only year at Savour Fare!) but I’m already thinking about and planning for the next one. I, like most Americans, have made New Year’s resolutions year after year, and like most Americans, have failed to keep them. But this time is different. Because I’m going to make foodie resolutions. And I never have trouble keeping those! We’re planning a mellow New Year’s Eve at home, where I’m cooking a feast (scallops, lamb and pistachio panna cotta) and we’ll drink champagne cocktails (recipe below). I hope you and yours have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a happy 2010!

It’s party time! — Clam Dip

Clam Dip 4

I know that you’re already falling out of your chair in excitement because this is the first Savour Fare post in quite some time that didn’t feature sweets. You want me to do WHAT? — Gingerbread Bungalow

December 27th, 2009 · 12 Comments · Baked Goods and Desserts, Non Recipe

Gingerbread House 1

It’s Daring Bakers time again, and this time they made me build a freaking gingerbread house. Although this seems like a lighthearted fun activity that’s perfect to share with the kiddos, be warned: This is not for the faint of heart. Or the inexact. Or the short on time. Or the parents of toddlers who want to help. Or anyone who wants to keep their kitchen even remotely neat.

The December 2009 Daring Bakers’ challenge was brought to you by Anna of Very Small Anna and Y of Lemonpi. They chose to challenge Daring Bakers’ everywhere to bake and assemble a gingerbread house from scratch. They chose recipes from Good Housekeeping and from The Great Scandinavian Baking Book as the challenge recipes.
